With nearly 40 participants, NYPA’s first COVID-19 conference call resulted in the sharing of some excellent resources highlighting where companies and individuals can donate, as well as highlighting how our community is already rising to this challenge. NYPA will be working in the coming days, weeks and months to disseminate specific requests for help. Currently, the lack of personal protective equipment is the best publicized need, and where our community has already begun to rise to this challenge, including:- NBC’s New Amsterdam donated half a truck load of PPE to the New York State Department of Health last week.
- Local 52 members have stepped up to donate from their personal supplies, and as John Ford noted, they are coordinating with the Teamsters for distribution throughout NYC.
- ArtCube Nation, partnering with staff from NYC Health + Hospitals, have mobilized their network making PPE, including over 300 face shields and over 250 sewn masks since March 21st. Their goal is to manufacture 1,000 face masks in the near future. For more information on how to support this effort with donations or supplies, please click here.
- Production company American High has taken over space at the Greater Syracuse Soundstage to mass produce face shields. They have partnered with Budmen Industries to 3D print the face mask Budmen designed. Over 3,000 people have downloaded Budmen’s free 3D Face Shield files. You can read more about this effort and get information about volunteering or donating supplies by clicking here.
Those with the ability to manufacture PPE are asked to please register with the state website below. For those with the capacity to 3-D print ventilators, our understanding at this point is that this portal will put you in touch with those who can provide approved designs, coordinate distribution, etc. | |
