Academy for Careers in TV and Film

In 2008 NYPA recognized that the NY production industry was entering a period of major expansion and that there was a need to ensure that young New Yorkers from all backgrounds should be given the opportunity to access meaningful entry points into the industry to pursue a wide range of career paths, including a variety of “below the line” positions almost entirely neglected by existing high school programs. NYPA’s goal was to also increase diversity in the workforce with more women and minority participation. Out of that concern, the Academy for Careers in TV and Film was born.

Higher Education Grants

As the industry continues to grow, NYPA has begun to engage high schools in upstate areas to also prepare students for careers in film and television.
Each year NYPA awards scholarships to graduating NYS high school seniors who intend to continue their studies or training to pursue a career in film or television. In the coming years NYPA intends to continue to expand its reach in upstate communities to educate high school students about job opportunities in the film and television industry. To date over 25 awards have been granted.
